Fully Automated Smart Warehouse Launched in Hong Kong

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and RV Automation Technology Company Limited (RV Automation), a partner company of HKSTP, has announced the opening the RobEx Centre, Hong Kong’s first fully automated and unmanned warehouse service at Hong Kong Science Park.

A new initiative of HKSTP’s Robotics Platform, the RobEx Centre will offer express courier and self-serviced storage to all Hong Kong customers, and acts as a working showcase of cutting-edge warehousing technologies for the logistics and supply chain industry.

The Centre features Autonomous Mobile Robot technology, smart warehousing system and facial recognition, provided by a group of technology companies in Science Park including RV Automation, Altali, Master Dynamic and QBS.

The RobEx Centre is a revolutionary alternative to traditional warehousing and logistics operations with its fully unmanned and automated capability. It has the ability to operate 24/7 as well as reduce the need of menial and physically demanding human labor.

The smart warehousing system calculates and maximizes the use of space within the venue, a much-needed ability in land-scarce Hong Kong. Big data analysis helps in scaling its warehousing services to take into account peak hours, impact of weather on delivery times, and reduce human errors in storing and delivery of parcels. Facial recognition technology is utilized for enhanced security.

Maritime observers follow cargo volumes closely in the August-through-October period. That’s considered the traditional peak shipping season.  It’s the time of year when U.S. retailers accelerate import orders for holiday merchandising. The Port reported that import volume increased 5 percent last month over September 2017 totals. RIYADH AIRPORT OWNS ITS LOGISTICS ZONE

JEDDAH — Higher authorities recently approved the setting up of an integrated logistics zone at King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, Okaz has learned. According to the regulation for integrated logistics zones, no Value Added Tax (VAT) will be levied on the goods in these zones as long as they are in customs pending status or if they are shifted temporarily between the main yard and the area allocated for the purposes of repair, maintenance and post-sale services. In addition to this, the Kingdom is also set to establish similar zones in the rest of the Kingdom’s airports under supervision of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).
