The container trade of US-China trade war has slowed down
There are more and more indications showed that with the developing of US-China trade war, the main trading routes of container trade has begun to slow down. The impact of trans-Pacific container shipping has emerged.
The maritime transportation alliances are gradually eliminating the trans-Pacific region services. As shipping companies didn’t struggle for supply and demand little by little, less demanding has pushed up the number of idle ships.
According to PIERS data, trans-Pacific trade has been under pressure with capacity 6.7% fallen. Imports from Asia to US were 2.7% lower than in April 2017, and in May fell by 0.1% year-on-year. The growth in June increased by 5% compared with the same period last year.
With the $34 billion came into effect on July 6 and the $16 billion tariff that has not yet been implemented, the impact of the new tariff on the US potential containers from China is up to 47.5% (5.1 million TEU).......
