图片
On August 22, Maersk was reported that it would test the Arctic route this week, starting from Vladivostok, passing through the Bering Strait and eventually reaching St. Petersburg. It is reported that the implementation of this test is the 3,600TEU ice class container ship "Venta Maersk". Maersk said that the trial was mainly to collect relevant data and explore the operational feasibility of container transportation in the Arctic waterway. At present, due to factors such as customer demand, trade network and population distribution, the Arctic waterway is not another option for commercial operation of existing networks. A spokesperson for Maersk said that we continue to pay attention to the development of the Arctic waterway. Currently, the Arctic channel is only available for three months per year, although this may change over time. In addition, the ship needs an icebreaker for navigation, so the cost will be higher than the traditional navigation route. The “Ve...

图片
Due to the tight freight-hauling capacity falls short of surging demand, wages and benefits for truck drivers are rising in the U.S. Report says wages rose up to 18% in past four years and benefits are also on the upswing, adding to higher logistics costs in a tight trucking market. The American Trucking Associations, a trade group that represents fleet owners, said annual truck-driver salaries rose between 15% and 18% from 2013 to 2017, with growth varying based on the type of fleet and the nature of the routes. Some private-fleet drivers earned as much as $86,000 annually in 2017, up from $73,000 in the group’s 2013 survey, on top of benefits packages that included new paid leave offers and more-generous retirement plans. The survey showed the median salary for a truckload driver working a national, irregular route—essentially an entry-level driving position—was $53,000, up $7,000 or 15% from 2013. The gains don’t show signs of slowing down as a strong rebound in trucking demand tha...

图片
As more robots join the warehouse floor, they’re reshaping the way that the buildings themselves are planned and designed. Add the reduction in human workers to the mix and the warehouse design of the future – particularly in new buildings occupied by large companies – could be significantly different to manually operated buildings more common today, according to JLL’s Labour and automation and the rise of robots in logistics report. “Automation and robots will enable warehouse operators to better utilise floorspace and alter traditional warehousing layouts,” says Jon Sleeman, Head of EMEA Industrial & Logistics Research at JLL. “Equally these changes do not necessarily mean that all older buildings will become obsolete as it may be possible to improve their efficiency by retrofitting modular ...

The platform, called TradeLens, is designed to manage and track shipping file records by electronic end-to-end supply chain processes.
